Working with the community to combat anxiety and depression
Inspiring change and challenging misconceptions around mental health and wellness.
Our Work with Young People and Adults in the Community
In 2023, approximately 1 in 5 children and young people aged 8 to 25 in England were identified as having a probable mental disorder. Specifically, 20.3% of 8 to 16-year-olds, 23.3% of 17 to 19-year-olds, and 21.7% of 20 to 25-year-olds fell into this category.Anxiety, a natural response to stress, becomes problematic when persistent and overwhelming. It can affect individuals of any age, background, or social group, with many anxiety disorders beginning in childhood and adolescence. Research indicates that as many as one in six young people will experience anxiety at some point, equating to up to five children in a typical school class. Our programs utilise coaching methods to support these young people, helping them build resilience, develop coping strategies, and set them up for success in their personal and academic lives.
The Wellbeing Generation’s Approach
Through our community programmes, The Wellbeing Generation facilitates workshops and events that encourage participants to share and listen to personal narratives. These sessions are designed to be inclusive and supportive, providing a space where individuals can connect, heal, and grow together. By centering storytelling, the organisation not only addresses individual wellbeing but also fosters a sense of community resilience and cohesion.

In August 2023, we were over the moon to be awarded funding to contribute towards the Mindfulness walking group and Anxiety programme at Nuneham Courtenay Arboretum.
Personal values are the things that are important to us, the characteristics and behaviours that motivate us and guide our decisions.

Working with The Wellbeing generation at Harcourt Arboretum
We were very pleased to be able to partner with The Wellbeing Generation to provide a course of mindfulness-based sessions for six young people who were finding it difficult to engage with schools. The Life Coach, Lana, worked with us to develop sessions utilising different paths and areas of the Arboretum, providing the most appropriate natural setting for each session. In each session, Lana focused on a different sense: sight, sound, touch, scent and taste, enabling young people to reduce their anxiety and build their resilience by focusing on details of the beauty of the natural world that surrounds us and drawing inspiration from it. All the young people, and their parents and careers, reported an uplift in mood and reduction of anxiety as a result of their participation. As a result of this success, we are planning to run further course in spring 2024.
